While growing up, Dr. Pepper became Kelly's star in the junior's ring. Together they earned the State of Illinois Junior Handler of the Year, 2003 competition (earning Kelly a $1000 scholarship), as well as Best Junior Handler at the 2003 Pug Dog Club of America National Specialty. They also qualified in both 2003 and 2004 for the AKC Eukanuba National Invitational and Westminster Kennel Club. In limited showing in 2005, Dr. Pepper garnered a Best in Specialty Show (thank you Mr. William Cunningham), back-to-back Group Ones (thank you Mrs. Peggy Hogg and Mr. Richard Chashoudian), as well as many other wonderful breed wins and Group Placements! He finished the year ranked as the #14 Breed Pug (Canine Chronicle), #16 All-Breed Pug (Canine Chronicle), and #15 Pug (Pug Dog Club of America). In limited showing in 2006, Dr. Pepper garnered multiple Group Placements, as well as finishing the year ranked as the #19 Breed Pug (Canine Chronicle) and #22 Pug (Pug Dog Club of America). We'd like to extend a big "thank you" to Carlos J. Puig and the rest of the Handling with Style crew for their professional presentation and loving care of Dr. Pepper on the road when Kelly was unable to show due to conflicts with college. Now, as a veteran, Dr. Pepper is proving that some things never go flat! In his first show as a Veteran, he was awarded a Best in Specialty Show under breeder-judge Mrs. Donelle Richards. In his first year as a Veteran, he also earned a Veteran Group One, a Best Veteran in Match, and won the 7-9 Year Old Veteran Dog class at the 2009 National Specialty under breeder-judge Phyllis Williams. In his second year as a Veteran, Dr. Pepper was awarded the 1st (and only) Award of Merit and Best Veteran at the 2010 Great Lakes Pug Club Specialty under breeder-judge Mr. Jim Tomsic. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to breeder-judge Ms. Rosemary Robles for awarding Dr. Pepper Best in Veteran Sweepstakes at the 2010 Pug Dog Club of America National Specialty!! Also dabbling in performance, Kelly and Dr. Pepper have earned their Rally Novice title with 3 straight qualifying runs: a 98 and 3rd place, a 100 (perfect score!) and 1st place, and a 99 and 1st place! With these scores, Dr. Pepper was recognized as the 2009 #3 Rally Novice Pug as well as the 2009 Pug Dog Club of America's highest overall average Rally score for a member-owned dog. Kelly and Dr. Pepper finished the Rally Advanced title in April 2010, following their 2009 National Specialty Advanced A class win for their 2nd leg. Dr. Pepper is proof that pretty Pugs can be smart too! Moreover, Dr. Pepper and Kelly have gotten involved with the Northeastern Illinois chapter of Love on a Leash, and are currently pursuing a THD (Therapy Dog) title with visits to a local nursing home as well as participating in the R.E.A.D. program at the local library. We'd like to extend sincere thanks to all of those that have supported Dr. Pepper and Kelly on their endeavors in the juniors, conformation, and performance rings. It has only been with that encouragement and support that they have been able to accomplish as many things as they have.
